Power tools are also tools..

Even though I prefer hand tools for most tasks, ripping long pieces if timber using a hand saw can't be fun. With my new table saw it's easy.

The day of gluing is approaching..

Just a couple of things to cut out left.

More about tools

The Japanese pull saw is another fantastic hand tool. As fast and much more accurate than the scroll saw. Less noisy too... For those of you interested in workplace ergonomics, note how much easier it is to see the line when the light is coming from the front side if the blade

Power tools are useful, but...

Used the old (block?)plane I inherited from my grandfather twenty years ago for the first time today, and they really knew how to make hand tools in the time where sharp steel was the only way to make fast progress in our age long struggle to make wood shavings out of solid pieces of wood.

Guess which one is the best?

Bought a new sander a couple of weeks ago, today was the premier. The old one was approximately 10 euros fifteen years ago and is much better than hand sanding, but oh boy what a joy it was to use the new one. No vibrations, no gyro effect from a fast spinning sanding disc, fast removal of material in full control. Well worth its price although "slightly" more expensive than the old.

Epoxy and stuff

Visited the very nice people at Nils Malmgren AB, makers of Epoxy. A producer that take care of customers buying small quantities, stocking stuff like scales and other related stuff to simplify for us, offering good advice, and generally being very nice is rare and should be applauded.

Hammering away

Today, we bought some decent fir for the gunwales and for the fairing batten, put nails where we previously had put marks in pencil, attached the fairing batten, and marked out the first side panel.

Bought Plywood

Six sheets of gaboon ply in the garage and 2400 Swedish kronor (about 250 euros) less in my wallet.

Step two

Motorbike sold. Not having a bike feels strange, but I gained building space and cash that hopefully will be enough for a GIS. Next step is to buy wood, plywood and epoxy.

Plans are bought, the search for good wood is on..

The plans are bought, and the planning has started. The first step is to fix my motorbike and sell it to make space in the garage as well as creating the funds for buying wood and epoxy (how can epoxy be that expensive?). The goal is for the boat to be ready for the 2013 sailing season.
